The children in P5 are working very hard and having so much fun with their learning. They have approached new challenges with enthusiasm and their teachers could not be more proud of them. In Literacy, we are innovating the story ‘The Papaya that Spoke’ using a story map. So far, our fantastic authors have written some amazing stories using exciting vocabulary and a range of punctuation. We have innovated ‘The Avocado that Spoke’, ‘The Watermelon that Spoke’, ‘The Honeydew that Spoke’ and many more different versions! Ask your child to tell you their innovated story at home.
In Maths, we have been learning our 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables and their corresponding division facts so that we can recall them at speed, and use them to solve problems. We have been playing super fun board games to help us learn these facts, as well as having regular ‘Times Tables Champion’ events. The children are becoming so confident at their times tables and are learning to use these facts to solve multiplication and division problems.
Our topic is Sound and Light. We have investigated how light travels and conducted experiments to explore reflection. This term we will be using rice and drums to find out about sound vibrations and we will even be making our own instruments. Through our work with Ulster Wildlife, we have attended two morning sessions at Botanic Gardens where we have identified and measured different trees, and built and lit our own fires.
